Calvin has started a new phase… feeding himself. It’s certainly faster and alot cleaner to spoon feed him but how can you say “No” when it makes him this happy to do it himself.

This past weekend, we took the kids out to Eagle Creek for the Monster Mash Dash. Despite crazy heat/humidity in October, we all successfully finished a good 5k race.

So, how does an 8-month-old pass the hot and sticky time…

By chewing on toe-cicles, of course!

Update October 8, 2007

Filed under: parenting, television — mediocreperfectionist @ 3:04 pm

Wow… it has been over a month since my last post. My most sincere apologies, faithful reader. Let me do a quick recap of highlights from the last month or so:

  • It’s been teething central around here. Vin currently has 6 teeth (4 on top and 2 on the bottom) with 2 more appearing just below the surface this weekend. I think I’m weathering the bouts of crabbiness and the constant drool/snot fairly well; however, the middle of the night waking is starting to get to me. I, quite clearly, was spoiled by a good-sleeping infant.
  • The injustice and humiliation continue with Truman’s demotion from human to canine. This time it was a prolonged flea quarantine. After I found a flea on Calvin, Truman was banished to the kitchen for 3 days until the flea/tick juice could do its job and I could give him a bath. Poor puppy. I think he may be depressed. On the flip side, he has learned to hang out under Calvin’s chair while Vin eats. That’s good snackin’.
  • I finally bit the bullet and took Calvin to the Child Watch at my gym. Turns out that pregnancy was NOT the greatest assault to my midsection formerly known as a waist. No, rather it seems to be the ease of post-pregnancy drive-thru milk shakes. I still think it is hilarious that I had so much trouble gaining weight during pregnancy because, not pregnant, it isn’t a problem at all!
  • This year, I’m definitely running the mini-marathon again. I really felt left out last year so I signed up and I’ve started the long road back to being able to run a ½ marathon. Hopefully Calvin will be over his cheer aversion by then and can see his momma cross the finish line. So, I commit to it here in Black and White for all to see. Now I can’t back out, right?
  • Thank God real TV is back. Unfortunately, Tivo has gone to the flat-screen in the sky and so I’m having to do my own television-related thinking. Don’t mock me… it’s tough. I can’t pause my shows to get an ice cream sandwich or rewind because I was talking through a particular important bit. It’s really like watching TV in the olden days. Plus, I have to PLAN what I want to watch and actually show up when it starts!!!! However, new shows like Chuck and Pushing Up Daisys make it all worth while. Ahhhh…. Television. (Don’t you judge me! Our evening shuts down around here at 6pm. What else am I suppose do to? READ????)

So, clearly, not too exciting around here. I do have new pictures to post. As soon as my camera remembers how to talk to my computer, I’ll get those up. More to come real soon!
